PHANTOM Of The PICTURE SHOW

And now, for all of your patience in reading this, here it is:

1313 MOCKINGBIRD LANE

Actually no, just kidding, this is not about THE MUNSTERS (and their famous address),
rather about another almost equally iconic 60's manufacturer of dreams once located at
113 North 13th Street, Newark 7, NJ., the original location for REMCO Toys.

"Every boy wants a REMCO toy--and so do girls!"

WORLD OF TOMORROWAND THE  NEW

The WHITE MANA Restaurant currently on the busy corner of Manhattan & Tonnele Aves. in Jersey City NJ owes it's GENESIS
and 'ORIGIN STORY' to the 1939-1940 NY WORLD'S FAIR
in FLUSHING, QUEENS; unique round design,
including portholes, served as a demo (hold the onions!) prototype
debuting there at the WORLD OF TOMORROW pavilion/exposition
of what was planned to be many more,
part of a fast-food chain before fast-food was fast-food.

It was there also during the first (and only!
"\S/UPERMAN DAY"July 31940,
the "MAN OF TOMORROW" as well as his followers and athletic supporters
the hungry "\S/UPERMEN of AMERICA"not hard to imagine hundreds, more or less, that went to WHITE MANA Restaurant and ATE THERE to satisfy an appetite and slake a thirst after all those activities, chowing down after a busy and eventful day of unforgettable fun and games.

Sadly, WW II interrupted the flow of events, the plans for expansion were
shelved until 1946 when the dismantled piece-by-piece futuristic groundbreaking ground "burger-in-the round" dinner diner was reassembled at the site where it now stands low these many years, and you can even visit a piece of comic-book and hamburger history by going there NOW and stopping by for a bite.

IF Beale St. Could Talk

H. P. Beale's love and craft was to render the fat from animals so as to obtain lard
to use as an ingredient in cooking and baking as well as a spread for bread.
A subsidiary of Oscar Mayer, the cold cut and wiener people, 'twas in business
as far back as 1885, the fictional Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde's and the all too real
Jack The Ripper's time.

"Open Kettle" makes me think of a drum.

And sure enough, decades, approximately just short of 80 years later, a similar design
actually appears on a drum head, but only for about 5 months or so.
